What are the best places to get moving boxes?

Solid cartons make all the difference. You can buy new mover-sized boxes at nearby moving companies, truck rental locations like U-Haul, or office supply stores. We don’t recommend boxes from big box home repair stores. Although those boxes are great for storing things on a shelf, they are fragile and known to crush easily or tear open during a move. Mover’s boxes are of a higher quality and come in sizes that are designed to fit most household items. These boxes are versatile and can be stacked and loaded securely to better protect your goods.

We did a partial move of furniture from CT to FL and used this company. Within a day of signing up, I received a call from a local mover that they utilize and we set up a date for pickup. A week before the move, we finalized what we were moving with our contact a Mini Moves. The day before the move, the local movers called to verify everything. On the day of the move, they were on time and took EXTREME care to wrap all our furniture. We’ve had three major moves and we have never had this kind of care. The shipment arrived two weeks after pickup – right on the schedule of  “within three weeks.” Those movers came on the day promised and on time. Not only that, they put all of our furniture in the rooms we selected and even moved a few boxes that they originally placed. We would highly recommend them!

You can also use older boxes if they are sturdy and can be taped closed. Small boxes are ideal for packing books, paper files, canned goods, and heavy tools. Medium boxes work best for shoes, clothes, pots, pans, towels, and linens. Large boxes are the right choice for blankets, pillows, larger lampshades, and other big bulky items. Use double-wall “heavy-duty” boxes to pack glassware, lamps, breakable items, or heavy electronics. If you still have the box, use the original packaging for your flat-panel TV.

U-Haul’s Customer Connect (an online bulletin board) matches people who have boxes to give away with people who need them. Also, watch for the neighbor who always has the Amazon truck parked in front of their house; they have boxes!
